He was the Father of the Scottish Enlightenment and his radical ideas were carried across the Atlantic to America where they influenced American revolutiuonary thought. I was puzzled by one line: ‘Ulster has produced some of the greatest scientists in the history of the world and a philosopher who was one of the greatest in British history.’ I have a fair idea who the scientists are (but I’d like it if the Minister would list them). However, the philosopher has left me stumped.
